Market Companion is an app for following markets and discussing them. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we do not, and how to get rid of it.
Who we are
Market Companion (“we”, “us”) operates the Market Companion mobile application and this website. You can reach us at support@marketcompanion247.com for any privacy question, including requests to access or delete your data.
The short version
- Most of the app works with no account at all.
- Your watchlist and portfolio never leave your phone. We do not receive them, so we cannot see them, lose them, or hand them over.
- We collect an email address and a display name only if you choose to use chat.
- We do not sell your data, and there are no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
- You can delete your account and its data yourself, in the app or on this website.
Using the app without an account
Watchlists, quotes, charts, market movers, news and the portfolio tracker all work without signing up. What you save is stored on your device only.
When your device asks our server for prices or news it sends the ticker symbols it needs, and our server necessarily sees the network request, including your IP address, in order to answer it. These requests carry no account identifier, results are cached by ticker symbol rather than by person, and we do not build a profile from them.
If you create an account
An account is required only for chat. We then store:

What we never collect
- Financial information. Your holdings, share counts and cost basis are written to a database on your phone. There is no part of our service that receives them.
- Location. The app requests no location permission. When you upload a photo we actively strip its embedded metadata, including any GPS coordinates your camera recorded, before storing it.
- Contacts, calendar, microphone, camera roll browsing, or your activity in other apps.
- Advertising identifiers. There is no ad SDK, no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK in the app.
The app requests exactly two Android permissions: internet access, and permission to open an application package that another user has sent you in chat. The second one never installs anything by itself — Android always asks you first.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Data reaches only:
- Our hosting provider, which stores our database and files on our behalf and may not use them for anything else.
- Our market data provider, which receives the ticker symbols the app asks about, and never your identity.
- Law enforcement or regulators, only where we are legally compelled by a valid request.
Chat: what other people can see
Anything you post in a chat room is visible to everyone in that room and is stored on our servers. Direct messages are visible to you and the person you sent them to, and to our moderators when a message is reported or automatically flagged for review.
Please do not post personal or financial details in chat. Never send money to, share account credentials with, or act on trading instructions from anyone you meet in this app. Nothing said in chat is investment advice, and other users are strangers.
Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Every file uploaded to chat is scanned for malware before it is stored, and an upload is refused outright if the scanner is unavailable rather than being accepted unchecked. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure and we cannot promise absolute security.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time, and you do not need our permission or help:
- In the app: Chat tab → profile icon → Delete account.
- On the web: marketcompanion247.com/delete-account.html
- By email: support@marketcompanion247.com
Deletion permanently removes your email address, password hash, display name, bio and uploaded files, and detaches your name from messages you posted. It is immediate and cannot be undone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Contact us at support@marketcompanion247.com and we will respond within the time limit that applies to us — within one month in the UK and EU.
Where we rely on a legal basis under the UK GDPR or EU GDPR, it is: performance of a contract for operating your account and delivering your messages; our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe for abuse prevention and moderation; and your consent where you choose to upload an image or file.
Children
Market Companion is not intended for anyone under 18 and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our servers are located in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and stored there.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects your rights we will also tell you in the app.
Market Companion provides market data and a discussion forum. It does not provide investment advice, does not recommend securities, does not connect to your brokerage and does not execute trades. Market data is delayed by at least 15 minutes and is for information only.
